Applied Business
Learners will undertake a programme of assessments designed to assess not only their knowledge and understanding of business, but also the way in which this knowledge and understanding can shape their practical skills in beginning to think and realise their own plans about business.
Taking this course will provide the learner with the ability to:-
- Develop a critical understanding of organisations and the market they serve.
- Acquire a range of skills including decision making and problem solving.
- Be aware of current structures of business and business practice in different sectors and environments.
- Acquire a good grounding in business for higher education and employment.
A student taking the L3 Applied Business Certificate should be hard working and conscientious and really enjoy producing coursework as well as being strong in exams.
Year One
- Behaviour and discipline
- Introduction to criminology
Year Two
- Leadership and teamwork
- Police powers
The course is ideally suited to those who see themselves in a future Public Service Role. Many students have professed an interest in the Police or Army, and the leadership and teamwork modules certainly provide some preparation for disciplines and values involved in such work. However, the varied issues covered also provide a good grounding for careers as diverse as teaching, criminology, law, local government and beyond.
In terms of further study, current students have applied for HE level courses in Law, Teaching, Police studies, Criminology and Media Studies.
A trip to the Police museum, visits and guest speakers from a variety of services including the Police, Fire, Ambulance etc and a residential with the Army in Lower Sixth.
